Black History: Survival Of The Fittest

PIONEER WEB Du Bois His 1903 work Souls of Black Folk introduced the concept of 'double consciousness' which descriibes the internal contradictions of black people as they try to intergrate into a white world that simultaneously ignores their identities while refusing to fully intergrate them.

These insights are useful today as we examine modern socio-psychological pathologies, such as offering white coloured prosthesis to Black Breast Cancer Patients which are legacies of slavery.

MAKING BREAST CANCER HISTORY. At betterdays Cancer care we're not just making history we're changing the future.  Betterdays and the National Cancer action Team would like to invite BME patients, carers and representatives from the BME voluntary sector to form a national BME Advisory Panel to help drive improvements in this important area.

The panel will be representative of BME patients and carers across England, and will give patients an opportunity to comment on the quality of current cancer services and influence proposed new service developments. It will also help to influence the way services are commissioned for BME cancer patients across England.
