Breast cancer risk assessment service

About the service

This service is to assess the risk of breast cancer for people who have a family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer. Our two dedicated breast cancer family history nurse specialists, Kati Harris and Belinda (Bee) Lötter, see patients in clinic. Each patient is assessed according to NICE guidelines for breast cancer family history and referred if appropriate for breast screening.

Clinics are based at Guy's Hospital and Southwark PCT, although more locations are planned.
Patients who have:
  • an average risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer are given information about symptom awareness
  • a moderate risk are referred directly to the South East London breast screening service at King's College Hospital
  • an increased risk are seen in our genetics department for genetic counselling and screening is arranged.
